How do you pronounce...

Peonies are my favorite flower. I hear them pronounced different all the time. I can go to a florist and hear one pronunciation and then I'll go to a nursey and they say it a completely different way. I'm just curious about how you say it...
So do you pronounce it pee-OH-knee or pee-AH-knee?

pee-OH-knee or pee-AH-knee?

As a southerner, the slight drawl I have may make how I say "peonie" different than how I hear it.

I say "pee-oh-nee", and they are the most gorgeous flowers-especially when bunched together in a big vase.

Love these! I say pe-ah-nee, I think. It's hard to figure out how you say something when you're really thinking about it!

I say it with an 'oh' but I'm not sure how much you can count on my opinion with my accent!!

Peonies are wonderful!!

Have a lovely weekend x

I say pe-ah-knee. Not even so much of an ah as an uh..pe-uh-knee. But then again, I'm from rural South Carolina and a lot of words get botched so I'm certainly no authority on how to pronounce something ;-)

pee-ah-nee

I feel like I'm taking the SATs. Is there a right answer haha?

You made me go to dictionary.com where they say it aloud for you. It says pee-uh-nee, which is what I've been saying, but after your post, I was second guessing myself. Brian calls it my "panty flower", because he doesn't know how to say it either.

Love your blog! And I found this post SO funny! My Hubby and I were just talking about this the other day. He says it "pee-oh-knee" and I say it more like "pee-eh-knee". Either way, my fave flower!

Take care,
Kimberly
